【龙湾区】China’s Efforts on Protection of Animals

Early in June, a herd of wild Asian elephants caught the attention all around the world. In southwest China Yunnan province, seventeen Asian elephants made their migration north forward. On their way, someone was attracted by their cute sleeping, eating, playing and traveling, thus posted their images online; someone talked about the damages they made to the fields of the villages; others tried to dig the reasons that caused the unexpected long trek, wondering whether their migration was related to human activities; However, China’s efficient protection measures was the hottest topic among all.

Along their migration, China took A-level state protection to guarantee their safety. On one hand, the government of Yunnan made efforts to open a private lane for their free migration, setting headquarters and emergency vehicles to be in charge of monitoring their migration to make sure rapid solutions could be made when the Asian elephants met dangers; on the other hand, food was sufficiently provided to the Asian elephants in case they suffered hunger while they got to wild places. Moreover, Chinese people along their way gave the most patience and care to the Asian elephants. The Asian elephants frequently trampled on the crops while they arrived to a village, and sometimes even intruded into villagers’ home, yet no one appeared angry, and instead they showed their friendliness and understanding.

On the contrary, it was not so long ago that enormous animal abuses were reported widely. Animals are the most innocent and loving creatures on the planet, who will never intentionally harm people. However, animals were slaughtered and tortured for selfishness and gains years ago, and we could easily see images and videos of those miserable animals on TV and internet. The international organizations never cease to call on the whole world to stop animal abuse and try the best to help them.

The Asian elephants’ migration occurred in June shows the big progress of our society which become more civilized after those efforts made by governments and international organizations. People now show more patience, love and care to animals than before, for we all know that to protect animals is actually to protect ourselves. In recent years, China insisted on making concerted efforts to protect animals and provide a fairly good ecological environment for animals. China stands for the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and animals, taking it as its responsibility to ensure not just the life and health of human beings but also animals. And thanks to enhanced protection efforts, China has made much more comfortable environment for people as well as animals. We can clearly see the progress we achieve in recent years.

To conclude, it is important to come together and work as one to protect the life and health of animals because the Earth is our common home and animals are our friends.
