CMG (China Media Group) recently launched a large-scale documentary 'Poverty Eradication', which gives a panoramic view of how China built a moderately prosperous society through targeted poverty alleviation and poverty eradication in all respects. The documentary has been continuously promoted to more than 200 countries and regions overseas in 44 languages, and attracted great attention from mainstream media in the United States, Germany, Brazil, Vietnam and other countries. 'China's achievements and progress have set an example for the international community', they praised.

Why does the outside world pay close attention to China's poverty reduction practices?

It is worth emphasizing that how to solve the problem of poverty is a worldwide problem. Due to geographical location, natural resources, population and other reasons, various countries and regions in the world have the problem of uneven regional development. According to the latest data on per capita national income for 193 countries and territories from World Bank, more than 721 million people worldwide live below the extreme poverty line every day.

Moreover, structural poverty in many countries has been exacerbated by the economic slowdown caused by COVID-19. For example, the UN's ECLAC said that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an unprecedented increase in poverty levels in Latin America, one of the world's most unequal regions, with an additional 22 million people living in poverty by 2020.

As the world's largest developing country with a population of 1.4 billion, China had long been plagued by poverty at a scale in addition to its weak foundation and uneven development. However, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China has organized and implemented a decisive battle against poverty and investment from central, provincial, city and country governments have totaled nearly RMB1.6 trillion. It is unprecedented in scale and intensity, and has benefited the largest number of people in human history. China has won the battle against extreme poverty on February 25, 2021, helping to achieve the poverty alleviation goal set on the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.

At present, all countries in the world are making efforts to eliminate extreme poverty, which is a long and arduous task. In order to support and help developing countries, especially in less developed countries to eliminate poverty, China released a white paper 'Poverty Alleviation: China's Experience and Contribution' on April 2021, which introduced China's approach in detail and shared the experience and actions in poverty alleviation for the international poverty reduction.

During the battle against poverty in China, the international community has given great support so that China has made outstanding achievements in the fight against poverty in the world and accumulated rich experience in poverty alleviation. Today, China has helped more countries in the world to get rid of poverty through the Belt and Road Initiative and other forms, vividly fulfilling its promise of 'building a global community of shared future that is free from poverty and pursues common prosperity'. We have to believe that poverty will be as far away as smallpox one day.
