【市卫健委】The Belt and Road Initiative: Great Achievements and Contributions

     In September and October 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a cooperation initiative to build the "New Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" respectively, which is called The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In the past 9 years, The Belt and Road Initiative has made great achievements. As of this year, China has signed more than 200 cooperation documents with 149 countries and 32 international organizations. From 2013 to 2021, China's direct investment in the joint construction of the country totaled US$161.3 billion, creating 346,000 local jobs and 32,000 enterprises in China.  

     The Belt and Road Initiative pursues development, advocates win-win results, and conveys hope. Guided by the spirit of the Silk Road, the Belt and Road Initiative ushers in a fairer world, more equal trade relations, and a promising future for people from different countries and regions. It can be proved by some examples.

     In Serbia, there is a steel mill in smederevo, which was built in 1913 and has been in a semi-suspended state for many years. In April 2016, with the support of the Belt and Road Initiative, China Hesteel Group acquired Smederevo Steel Mill. Under the operation of Hesteel Group, the steel mill immediately began to revive and achieved a turnaround in the same year. Since 2019, Smederevo Steel Plant has become Serbia's largest exporter, contributing 2% of its gross domestic product (GDP) annually.

     Bangladesh also benefited. Bangladesh located in South Asia, is the eighth most populous country in the world and one of the least developed countries and one of the most densely populated regions in the world. With the in-depth docking of the Belt and Road Initiative with bangladesh's development strategy since in 2016, the close cooperation between two countries has had a positive impact on regional economic and social development. In 2020, Bangladesh's per capita GDP surpassed India's, becoming a dark horse of economic development in South Asia. China is now Bangladesh's largest trading partner, and Bangladesh is China's third largest trading partner and third largest contracting market in South Asia.  

     It is easy to find out that the Belt and Road Initiative is a road of continuous promotion of cooperation. Under the purpose of the Belt and Road Initiative, it is of great significance to the interconnection between peoples of all countries, different social groups, and especially between various economies. The achievements, from which like Serbia and Bangladesh, have effectively promoted the mutual benefit, win-win results of jointly building a country, and efficiently promoted the construction of an open world economy, and further strengthened the confidence of all parties to work together to build the Belt and Road Initiative.

     At present, we are facing the great changes in the world that have not occurred in a hundred years. I fervently believe that promoting the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative are the desire of the majority of the world's people, which can make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
