     Youth represents hope and creates a better future. The world is the youth’s oyster. President Xi Jinping pointed out in his congratulatory letter to the World Youth Development Forum recently that young people from all countries should carry forward the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom for all mankind, promote global development initiatives with actions, help implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and jointly write a new chapter in the era of solidarity and cooperation among the youth of the world.

     As Charles Dickens says, it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. The new era has given young people a new mission. The young people of today should be the pioneers of The Times with the courage to take the lead. Young people are not only the most ideal and creative generation, but also a solid force for promoting the development of states, nations and the world. China has always attached great importance to the youth who are regarded as the effective strength to promote social development. Especially in the face of the enormous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy and society, the youth should shoulder the responsibility for fighting against the disease and the mission of adapting to the new changes and challenges.

     Young people symbolize not only the future of the country but the world. Facts have proved that this generation of the youth have critical thinking, hard work and resilience. They hope to participate in global governance in a deep way and contribute their youthful wisdom and strength to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. For example, Geng Xueshan from China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp. went to Tajikistan 5,000 kilometers away from home to participate in the construction of landmark buildings along the Belt and Road.  Chinese young people in the new era not only care about their family and country, but also care about mankind. They actively learn from the useful experiences and achievements of other countries and civilizations, and are always at the forefront of building a community with a shared future for mankind. On such major issues as poverty alleviation, climate change and cooperation of fighting against COVID-19, they transcend language barriers and cultural differences, spread warmth with smiles and friendship with wisdom. They advocate and practice the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind in a youthful way, and build a broad bridge of exchanges and mutual integration between young people of all countries with their hearts.

     The youth have taken an active part in the Belt and Road Initiative and pursued the vision of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. We should work together with the youth of other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind, injecting youthful energy into the development of the world.
