【平阳县】The Belt and Road Initiative -- Concerto of inheritance and innovation

     Proposed by China in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative is both a revival of trade business along the Silk Road and an inheritance of the Silk Road spirit across time and space.

     The Silk Road in ancient China was beyond the description of “a simple trade intercourse”. It is a complex of trade, politics, religion, military and so on. Perhaps, it was seemingly merely a commercial channel. Nevertheless, it built a relatively equal, inclusive and harmonious "world" in the backward ancient society, which is even more meaningful indeed.

     The Belt and Road Initiative shows that China has adequate ability and inexhaustible courage to open up a new "world", which is the inevitable result of the self-improvement of Chinese civilization. It is not only a process of finding business opportunities and partners, but also an evolutionary process of Chinese civilization realizing itself renaissance in the new era.

     From the perspective of cultural genes, the Belt and Road Initiative is by no means neo-colonialist. No matter in the succession of the major schools of thought in ancient times, or in the development of the Chinese nation for thousands of years, there has never been an ideology or movement similar to colonialism. Instead, the territory of China has been gradually formed through countering aggression, friendly communication and ethnic integration. Moreover, in the history of bloody and tearful struggle in modern times, the Chinese people have more personally experienced the pain of colonial aggression and will never inflict similar atrocities on others.

     In the 20th century, many countries that suffered from colonial trauma gradually gained national liberation and are continuing to struggle for a prosperous life for their people. However, some developed Western countries are practicing hegemonism and unilateralism in an attempt to control the world market and sustain an unfair and unreasonable old international order. The developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America have not enjoyed the benefits brought by modernization and economic globalization. It is difficult for them to obtain affluence either. On the other hand, the Belt and Road Initiative has put forward a new path of coordinated development and mutual benefit to the world. To all countries along the route, the initiative has brought higher improvement in infrastructure, greater equality and reciprocity in trade regulations, and more wealth to the broad masses of people. It is believed that the prosperity of the Belt and Road Initiative will promote the building of a fair and reasonable new international political and economic order. Undoubtedly, China will keep on playing an active role in international affairs as a responsible major country and join hands with friendly people around the world to achieve flourish and strength.
