Recently, a herd of Asian elephants’ migration across Yunnan gets lots of publicity from international mainstream medium. Their traveling story has become a global hot-spot and China’s excellent response obtains high praise of the world.

Ecologically, migration is a behavior that the wildlife would search for a more suitable habitat to live in to maintain their survivability and adapt to the changing environment. Despite that public opinions about the reasons of the migration are divergent, there is no doubt that the original habitat is deemed unsuitable to live anymore. The elephants are taking the initiative to explore the environment to find a better residence.

During the migration, Chinese society shows its friendliness and humanization. The government sends elephant experts and firefighters to not only guide the elephants’ migration routine, but also protect the elephants and clear the damage they made. Meanwhile, the local people in Yunnan keep distance with the herd spontaneously.

Chinese government and people perform to be extremely inclusive to the migration. The elephants’ disruptive behaviors during the trip were all condoned regardless of the economic damage. The professional guidance of the government and the inclusiveness of people reveal China’s fully respect for the law of nature. It follows that China is completing ecological environment construction and rarely considers the cost. It is a sign that we are exploring a sustainable high-quality development way equipped with scientific thinking methods. People’s attitude towards animals could reflect the degree of society civilization. In this case, China’s response illustrates its prosperous development of the modern society’s civilization.

We are willing to share our experience in ecological environment improvement and discuss whether there are more superior protection schemes. In the past few months, there were lots of foreign journalists especially came to Yunnan to see the elephants’ status. The local residents gave them a warm welcome and shared the latest news they knew. Meanwhile, the migration attracted attention of many specialists in wildlife protection around the world. They actively discussed and shared their professional knowledge to make contribution to ecological civilization. A consensus of the international community of joint discussion, positive interaction and win-win cooperation was reached.

Human and nature form a community of shared life. Thus, we are supposed to preserve natural environment, which required us to protect biodiversity. It means protecting each kind of wild animals. Human and the nature share the common stake. There are some countries who used to pursuit technology and industrialization development at the cost of the environment. Their history has warned us that short-sighted development would bring irreversible damage to nature. China intends to achieve modernization with harmonious co-existence between human and nature. At the present day, it is urgent to establish the idea of the harmonious coexistence between human and nature. It is a good sign that Asian elephants’ migration draws attention of the public. Instead of merely focusing on the protection of Asian elephants, we should attach importance to the preservation of all the wildlife and recovery of their habitats.
