【市执法局】Achievements rely on spirit

China is now on a rapid ascent in the world science league. According to the NSF (the U.S. National Science Foundation), China actually has overtaken the United States for the first time in total number of science publications (National Science Board, 2018). Honestly, these Scientific achievements are inseparable from spiritual support. The great spirit is the precious wealth accumulated by scientific and technological workers in countless scientific practices. A great spirit not only nourishes a great cause, but is also the soul on which a nation depends for long-term survival. Chinese development of science and technology has benefited from a group of hardworking scientists. They use the spirit of scientists to achieve scientific achievements and help the motherland's scientific and technological development.

How many journeys have they made and how many mission have they carried on their shoulders?

In my opinion, scientific spirit includes a sense of responsibility, patriotism, curiosity, enthusiasm, innovation, sacrifice and so on. Several examples could illustrate the impact of spirit on scientific achievement, yet at the top of my lists are the following aspects which should never be ignored.

The first example, I am presenting here, is that patriotism and sacrifice is irreplaceable parts of scientific spirit in the past era. Deng jiaxian, who was profoundly influenced by the patriotic salvation movement during his study in school, has designed China’s atomic bomb and hydrogen bomb, and successfully led Chinese defense weapons to the advanced level in the world regardless of losing time and company with his family and even hiding everything about himself. It is his spiritual power that helps him to accomplish his great contribution to the cause of China’s nuclear science.

Furthermore, persistence and a sense of responsibility also is another catalyst for the accomplishment of scientists. Yuan longping, the man who puts an end to hunger, has devoted himself to the research and development of a better rice breed and overcame hunger problems. He has faced with a lot of problems and trouble in producing high productive rice after he had came up with the idea that hybridizing rice. He put the shoes deep into the paddy field, let the clear footprints point to human future, toward our beautiful new era. His technique for hybrid rice was eventually recognized as one of the most scientific ways in the world today. “Chance favors the prepared mind.” ,he always said this sentence in the public vision for encourage the young generation to learn to understand the spirit of persistence and responsibility.

All in all, lots of scientists devote themselves to research all their lives and time. Maybe they don’t possess hundreds of billions of dollars, but their spiritual world is very invaluable treasure for themselves and our human being. At the same time, our nation's scientific development is now in golden age, and it gives us the opportunity to continue to climb the scientific peak. As a young people in this new generation, we should respect and love science, we should spare no effort to learn and to feel the spirit of our hard-working scientists in our daily life, because every little achievements rely on spirit.
