【苍南县】The Oceans of Stars in China’s Science
To mark the 100th centenary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China, Interpret China Studio has produced a five-part documentary series called Future Fantastic: China’s Science Revolution. This documentary tells the stories of dozens of top Chinese scientists such as Ouyang Ziyuan, Pan Jianwei, Pu Muming and Wang Yifang in a new way. It records the golden age of China’s science in a three-dimensional way. The film is not only a record of exciting and ambitious scientific achievements, but also the persistence, failure, tears and dreams of Chinese scientists on the way to exploration.
"Manned deep submersible hero" Cui Weicheng was acclaimed to be the hero of the manned deep-sea submersible. Mariana trench is known as the "fourth pole of the earth". The deepest depth is nearly 11,000 meters, equivalent to mount Everest on the top of another stack of Xiyue Hua mountain’s altitude. High water pressure, total darkness, low temperatures and scarce food resources altogether make it one of the harshest places on earth. On December 5, 2020, Cui Weicheng, first deputy chief designer of China's manned submersible Jiaolong, led a scientific expedition to 11,000 meters in the Mariana Trench, showing the Chinese people's spirit of exploration.
To find a better experimental animal to study degenerative diseases in the human brain, Pu Muming, a leading researcher in Brain science in China, along with his team turned to monkeys, a close relative of humans. Finally, on November 27 and December 5, 2017, the world's first and second successfully cloned non-human primates "Zhong Zhong" and "Hua Hua" were born! Pu Muming, who is over 70, said proudly, "This is Chinese team! We have achieved something that even the top team in the US national laboratory can't do. It is marvelous, isn’t it?" Since then, Pu didn’t stop further research. He soon realized that the next step was to clone monkeys with certain brain diseases and use them as models to cure them. In one year, only, he made it.
This documentary also records the stories of other great scientists in China: li Di, the chief scientist of "Sky-Eye" FAST, reviews the construction process of China's Sky-Eye; Academician Wang Yifang goes deep into the high temperature and high humidity underground to build Jiangmen neutrino experiment observation station; Academician Ouyang Ziyuan tells the arduous course of China's lunar exploration; Academician Hou Fanfan's keeps fighting for his dream of "no kidney disease in the world" and so on.
China's scientific achievements not only belong to China, but also to all mankind. Watching the Future Fantastic: China's Science Revolution not only boosted the confidence of the Chinese people, but also showed the world the oceans of stars in Chinese science. Here is the infinite power of man to explore the universe and the unknown. And this power is the epitome of a great power. The name of this great power is China.
