In the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping said that improving people’s well-being is the fundamental goal of development. We must do more to benefit people’s livelihood, address people’s concerns and make up for the shortcomings in development. We will promote social equity and justice, make steady progress in ensuring people have access to childcare, education for the elderly, adequate housing and support for the disadvantaged, intensify poverty alleviation, and ensure that all our people have a greater sense of fulfillment as they work together to achieve shared development. We will continue to promote all-round human development and common prosperity for all. The People’s livelihood work is the work closest to the people. The purpose of the Communist Party of China is to serve the people heart and soul. Our country puts the interests of the masses first. The People’s livelihood is the vital interests and well-being of the people and a better life for the people, to improve people’s livelihood is to enable people to have better education, have more stable jobs, more satisfied income, enjoy more reliable social security, higher level of medical and health services, and live in a better environment.

As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the principal contradiction in our socialism has been transformed into a contradiction between the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life and unbalanced and inadequate development, the transformation of social contradictions has also put forward new requirements for ensuring and improving people’s livelihood in the course of development. To improve people’s livelihood, we should first solve the problem of poverty.

However, a large proportion of our people are still living in poverty, and our country’s leaders have taken poverty very seriously since the founding ceremony of the People’s Republic of China, our country has also been working hard to solve the problem of food and clothing for the poor people. At present, great achievements have been made in the fight against poverty. By the end of 2019, the incidence of poverty in China had dropped from 10.2 per cent in 2012 to 0.6 per cent.

Over the past 10 years, I have actually felt the tremendous changes that have taken place in our country, and I have always heard my parents exclaim, our generation is a very lucky and happy generation, from my small family, over the past two decades, my family’s motorcycle has been replaced by a small car, and our dilapidated old house has been replaced by a comfortable high rise. My father always told me to cherish the educational opportunities provided by the state and study hard, it is also because of the continuous development of the country, let me have the opportunity from a remote small county to Hangzhou such a large city to continue my studies. On the Internet, I can also see many cases of poverty-stricken villages and counties, such as Pumi village in Yunnan province and Lin County, Shanxi County in Shanxi province. Through these vivid cases, I can really feel the unremitting efforts of our country in the fight against poverty, the lives of the people in poor villages and counties have indeed been greatly improved, which shocked me, and I can not help lamenting the growing strength of the motherland.

Poverty alleviation, the poverty problem to be solved, poverty is not just living poverty in the literal sense, it also has a deeper meaning, poverty will not only bring us difficulties in living, but also bring us the problem of status poverty, that we may not be able to live in a way that is respected, recognized and accepted, that we can not live with dignity, and that poverty may lead to autonomous poverty, where people in poverty do not have full choice, freedom and opportunity, not being able to live a meaningful life. Before this, I had always thought that poverty means not enough to eat, not enough to wear, not enough to have medical housing security. Only after further study, did I understand that poverty has brought difficulties to our lives, it also does a lot of damage to our mental health and so forth, and poverty means deprivation.

World multipolarization, economic globalization, social informatization, cultural diversity, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and Industrial Revolution make today’s world, mankind is in a period of great development, great transformation and great adjustment. We are in an era of ever-increasing challenges and risks. Mankind is confronted with political and economic difficulties, global climate problems, global security problems and poverty problems. China has made great achievements in poverty control and has made great contributions to the global poverty reduction rate. At present, the Western countries’programs for poverty control are mainly humanitarian aid programs, but there are some problems in this method. The humanitarian aid programs only focus on survival poverty and ignore global institutional justice, neglect of poverty in rich countries. In the light of the Chinese nation’s fine tradition and culture, the sufferings of the Chinese people in modern times, China’s independent foreign policy of peace and China’s rise, General Secretary XI proposed the concept of “A community of shared future for mankind”, building a community with a shared future for mankind reflects the common pursuit of values of human society. It has gathered the biggest common denominator of the aspirations of the people of all countries for peace, development, prosperity and development, and charted a course for China’s peaceful development, the prosperity and progress of the world are of great and far-reaching significance. And “Building a community of human destiny”is a Chinese solution to solve the problem of global poverty, which is a good medicine to eliminate the problem of global poverty. I feel that China is a peace-loving country, a country that is willing to contribute to world peace and harmony, and a big country with a sense of responsibility.
