【瓯海区】The Journey to the Broad Road Covered with “Blossoms of Prosperity”

Earlier this year, on the poverty alleviation summary and commendation congress, President Xi Jinping solemnly announced that China has successfully won the battle of poverty alleviation. The success of the fifth plenary session of the Party’s 19^th Central Committee highlighted that the construction of socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics is at a crucially turning point and complete poverty alleviation and achievement of the historical mission-realization of a Xiaokang (well-off) society-is just around the corner.

The key to great political leadership is to serve its people. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, poverty is the greatest barrier in human society. Fighting against poverty has always been a major issue in governing a country at both ancient and modern times. The Chinese nation has always had the desire for poverty elimination and food and clothing abundance. The Chinese history is a history of an enduring battle against poverty. During the new democratic revolution period, the Communist Party led farmers in “dividing the land from local tyrants” in order to make sure “tillers own the land” and help poverty-stricken farmers to become masters of their own lives; winning the revolution in China also laid a solid political foundation for eliminating poverty. After the founding of new China, the Communist Party united the people in winning the socialist revolution and established socialist system in China and they vigorously promoted socialist development, which created a solid institutional foundation for eliminating poverty. Since the opening-up and reform policy, the Communist Party led the people in fully liberating and developing production force and focused on improving people’s wellbeing, which provided a firm economic guarantee for eliminating poverty. Therefore, in order to guarantee the wellbeing of the general public，we need to eliminate poverty, put people in the first, work for the people, and fulfill their aspiration for a better life. Only when people’s “barn” is full, their “pocket” is puffed, and their face is “smiling” can we completely solve the issues caused by poverty, a problem that has been challenging the Chinese nation for thousands of years.

The journey is still long and we need to continue to struggle. Today the world is undergoing unprecedented changes. However with “opportunities” and “luck” on our side, which are must-have components for achieving common prosperity and poverty elimination, we have the absolute strength and confidence and firm determination and confidence to achieve common prosperity. Eliminating poverty is not the end but a new starting point for common prosperity. Along the journey of achieving moderate prosperity, no one should be left behind. As pointed by President Xi Jinping “Poverty is not a word in the dictionary of socialism.” We need to follow the guidance of the Party led by President Xi Jinping, strive forward, be down-to-earth, persevere, constantly make achievements, and march towards the dream of achieving common prosperity and work hard towards the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.
