【平阳县】Beating the poverty

Recent two years have witnessed many significant changes on our country. There is no doubt that our motherland China is becoming more powerful and prosperous and we are making great progress in every aspects. One of the great achievements is that we finally succeed in finishing building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. With the booming of the economy, people now may have no chance to taste the pain of poverty. The society that almost everyone is suffering from poverty seems to be an old-time nightmare. Teenagers may hear some pretty tough stories from their grandparents. Do you have any idea about what it means to be poor? Can you image your life without money? You may have nothing to eat but only can eat roots and leaves. You may have no paper or pen to study. Worse more, the girls may have no chance to go to school to get educated, they may even don’t know how to write their names during their whole life. If someone asks what poverty is, you can answer like this: poverty is desperately nothing, no food, no drink, no education, no entertainment... and no hope. Everyone is struggling to live, but at the meantime, they don’t know the meaning of life. That kind of life is a living death. That’s why our government is so committed to liberate us from poverty.

Since its founding, the Communist Party of China has made it its original mission to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. It has united and led the Chinese people in a long and arduous struggle to create a better life for themselves. During the period of the New Democratic Revolution, the Party united with the peasants and led them in the principle of "land belongs to the tiller", helping the poor to emancipate themselves, winning the victory of the Chinese revolution and establishing the new China. Thus we can create the fundamental political conditions for the eradication of poverty. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Party has led people in completing the socialist revolution, advancing socialist construction, and organizing the people to work hard and independently rebuild their country. All of these actions successfully built a solid foundation for saving people out of poverty and improving people's lives. Since the start of reform and opening up policy, the Party has planned and organized poverty alleviation through the development, focusing on liberating and developing the productive forces, ensuring and improving people's well-beings, and finally making unprecedented achievements.

The poverty alleviation guidelines stipulate that by 2020, the rural poor will have no worries about food and clothing, and the rural poor will have access to compulsory education, basic medical care and safe housing. All of these goals are accomplished as scheduled. It should be noted that poverty alleviation is a new starting point of a new life rather than the end. More importantly, we should continue to play a leading role in our future work to consolidate the hard-won achievements in poverty alleviation.
