【瑞安市】The Road from Past to Future

     The past 9 years has witnessed how the Belt and Road Initiative has expanded from China to the whole world since 2013 when President Xi Jinping put forward it for the first time. In fact, it’s a road linking the past with the future.

     The history of the road can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period where ancient China traded with other countries in Eurasia. But it wasn’t until in 1877 that Richthofen, the German geographer, came up with the Silk Road, the origin of the current Belt and Road.

     Nowadays, it’s not just merely about rebuilding the ancient international trade route but concerned with shaping the common future not only of the countries along the Belt and Road but also the entire world.

     Firstly, it accelerates the process of world economic integration as the finance has been largely stimulated. During the 9 years, the trade between China and the countries along the road has reached a new level, about 11 trillion dollars; huge progress has been achieved in investment cooperation, over 230 billion dollars; big breakthroughs have been gained in multilateral, bilateral and regional cooperation with 79 overseas economic and trade cooperation zone newly founded.

     Secondly, it’s not only an economic belt but also a cultural one as  more communicating and collaborating opportunities are offered to the countries nearby, exactly conforming to the current global themes of peace and development. Civilizations divided by geopolitics will inevitably lead to confrontation while the community connected by the Belt and Road provides more strategic dialogue and cooperation. Up to now, over 172 countries and international organizations have joined the Belt and Road Initiative, 37 heads of states to the related summit. As a result, the mutual learning between civilizations can transcend the clash with oppositions replaced by inter-locution, conflicts by collaboration.

     Lastly, China has shown its responsibility as a big country for the international community. Facing the over-changing global situations and the fierce competition, China has raised its own solution— the Belt and Road, which aims at uniting all nations and ethnic groups while at the same time increasing people’s life level by co-working in economics and politics. Up to 27 May,2022, China has signed up over 200 cooperation documents with over 150 countries and 32 international organizations. Nowadays, the Belt and Road is more than a road in space. Instead, it becomes one in concept with its unique cultural connotation of peace, win-win  cooperation, openness and inclusiveness. China has made its voice clearly  heard not only in the countries along the road but all over the world, where China strives for building a human community with a shared future.

     In conclusion, with the Belt and Road as a cultural symbol, China has conveyed an idea of peace, development and collaboration to the whole world. And all the countries involved gather to the road for the development of the whole region rather than their own benefits. In this sense, there is no doubt that the Belt and Road relates closely to the future of not only China but the whole world.
